Since the 1960's, interest in preserving French Canadian culture and traditions has grown, including famous French Canadian food. Probably the best known French Canadian dish is pea soup. It is also enjoyed in other parts of the country as well, and it is a traditional lunch special, usually with dumplings called doughboys floating in it. Another famous French-Canadian dish is called Creton, which is a spicy pork plate.
It can be served as an appetizer before a festive meal or as a picnic snack. Butter tarts are another popular treat for a snack or for dessert. These are most common in Quebec but can also be found in other parts of Canada. Another French Canadian dessert specialty is called pudding au chomeur (poor man's pudding). This is an upside down cake with a caramel base.

A new report from the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute (CAPI) states that the Canadian food industry is losing relevance, profitability and quality. Canadian food imports have increased by 50 percent as compared to 2000. Canada was once the world's third largest food importer, but now has now moved down to the seventh position. The reports also states that the Canadian food sector could miss out on big opportunities, since the worlds demand for food is expected to grow by around 70 percent by 2050.
CAPI has outlined steps that could help to reverse this trend. It urges the Canadian food industry to take advantage of the nation's natural assets in terms of climate, geography and skills to produce higher volumes of better quality food.

If you love food and if you are more than just a foodie but also a person who loves to cook what you wish to eat, and if you love Canadian food, then finding the right and authentic recipes surely would play an important role in how your food turns out to be.
If you wish to have the best of the food from Canada, then make it a point to look for cook books that were written by Canadian authors or perhaps look for sites that are from Canada. It is a known fact that the best of a particular country's food can only be delivered to you by a person who was born and bred in that country. Hence, look for recipes from Canada on a Canadian site, owned by a Canadian.
